Looking Into the Past – The Story of the Great Western Sugar Company in Northern Colorado

Join us to learn how one industry and one company played a major role in the history of Fort Collins and Northern Colorado. The Great Western Sugar Company became the dominant sugar producer in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. The company acquired Fort Collins’s first sugar beet processing plant in 1905 to take advantage of the supply of water in the area and the city’s irrigation system. The Great Western Sugar Company sugar beet processing plant became a major contributor to the economic growth of Fort Collins.
