Courtroom trials are inherently fascinating events. There is something very dramatic about the clash of intellects and personalities in a confined space for a limited period of time with enormous stakes. This class was originally offered in 2020 and since then I have had many requests to repeat those first classes, so this class will be a rerun of of the 2020 class. We will again consider and discuss, among others, Commonwealth v. Lizzie Borden, State v. Bruno Richard Hauptman, People v. Leopold and Loeb, and United States v. Julius and EthelRosenberg. Most of the classes will include an excerpt from a movie based on the trial, such as Compulsion, the Orson Wells movie dealing with the Leopold and Loeb trial.
At the first class, we will call for volunteers to present in the following weeks (for not more than 20 minutes) some aspect of the defendant, victim or lawyer involved in the trial of that week.
